Featured Institute of the month:

Postgraduate Diploma in Computing, Level 8, 1 year
Masters in Computing, Level 9, 2 years
The computing programmes at Unitec are specifically designed with professionals in mind. If you're a computer graduate with or without work experience, you can apply for the Unitec graduate programmes. The Postgraduate Diploma in Computing is the first year of the Masters degree and in this first year, you can enrol in taught papers. During the Masters degree, you can take taught papers but you will need to complete a research dissertation or thesis.
Both qualifications attract 55 points towards Permanent Residence, allow you to work part-time up to 20 hours a week while you're studying, and also apply for the 1 year Graduate Job Search Visa after completing the programme.
Graduates from either of these programmes are highly sought after because of the level of skills that are obtained. For anyone interested in web development, programming, multi-media or areas such as these, these programmes would be great.
Entry into a postgraduate level requires graduation in computing and IELTS. Work experience is a bonus but is not a requirement for entry. Spouse can come on work permit.

From 1 Jan 2010, students aspiring to study in Australia will now have to show that they have access to at least A$18,000 (about Rs. 7,48,000) a year to fund their living costs here instead of the current A$12,000 (about Rs. 4,98,000).

- $6300 per year for the student’s partner
- $3600 per year for the student’s first child
- $2700 per year for every other child; and where required
- demonstrate that the funds they are relying upon to meet the costs of studying in Australia will be genuinely available to them during their stay in Australia.

AIMS GLOBAL now an official partner for PEARSON exam in India

The Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) is a new international English test to assess English language proficiency. This test is approved by the UK Border Agency and delivers real-life measures of test takers' language ability to universities, higher education institutions, government departments and other organizations requiring academic-level English. Students who do not have a TOEFL/IELTS score can alternately give the Pearson Test of English (Academic).
This new test will accurately measure the Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking ability of test takers who are non-native speakers of English and who want to study at institutions where English is the language of instruction.

U.S. Government Rolls Out New DS-160 Visa Application Form in India
The Consular posts in India will soon start requiring the use of the newly-developed DS-160 web-based Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) application to incorporate all existing NIV applications into one interactive, online form. For all NIV visa appointments starting February 1, 2010, applicants will need to fill out the DS-160 form, which will be available online January 19, 2010. With demand for U.S. visas continuing to increase worldwide, the State Department is committed to using new technologies to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the visa application process.
Applicants will continue to complete visa application forms online, as they did previously with the Electronic Visa Application Form. With the new form, the applicant will be required to upload a visa photograph, and submit the form via the Internet. The applicant will print just one confirmation page upon completion of the DS-160.

Compulsory IELTS for UK
UK is planning to introduce compulsory IELTS examination for admissions to its universities and colleges, and the number of students taking the IELTS test continues to dip in the state.
Educational consultants say that prior to the November 12, 2009 announcement; the number of students to the UK saw a steady rise. Many students opting for admission to British universities hastened the admission procedure and have already gone to the UK.
Mr. Manchanda added: “we are expecting a further decrease in the number of students by 30 to 40 per cent as the UK is expected to make IELTS compulsory by March 2010. A huge number of students have already gone to the UK in 2009 and students heading for New Zealand and Canada have also shot up.”
NZ job market
The latest figures from the Department's Jobs Online suggest that the increase in the number of job advertisements which began in the middle of 2009 continued through December 2009.
Key points from the Jobs Online December are:
• The Skilled Vacancies Index shows that the number of advertisements for skilled jobs increased by 5.0% between September and December 2009, up from the 1.5% shown in last month's report. In annual terms, the index for December 2009 was 23% lower than December 2008. A falling index indicates that the job market is softening.
• The recent increase in job advertisements was reasonably evenly spread across the regions. Wellington had the largest increase during the past three months, but had the largest fall over the year.
• Most industries had a rebound in job advertisements, although the construction and engineering industry has continued to fall.
• The education and training industry has run counter to the trend, with job advertisements rising during the recession as more students remained in the education system or returned to study, and falling over the past six months as the economy recovers.
