New Zealand Immigration Rules Tightened for International Students

03/06/2011

The New Zealand Government will be implementing policy changes affecting international student and the Skilled Migrant Category for Residence Applications starting from 25th July 2011 & 2 April 2012. The changes are aimed at attracting more genuine international students.

The Key changes to International Students are:

  • Work Visas will be available for the partners of students studying postgraduate courses and courses on the Long Term Skills Shortage List (LTSSL) at bachelor's degree and above, rather than any students studying courses on the LTSSL

  • Students will need to study in New Zealand for at least two years to qualify for Study to Work Visas, with a shorter period required for people who have gained postgraduate qualifications or credit-transferred bachelor's degrees - From 2 April 2012

  • Student who obtained a second, higher qualification at bachelor's degree or postgraduate level will be able to obtain a second Graduate Job Search visa

Licensing regime protects immigrants - by Arunima Dhingra in Indian Newslink, New Zealand
18/06/2010

May 4, 2010 - Is your New Zealand Immigration Adviser Licenced??

From 4 May 2010 people providing New Zealand immigration advice offshore must be licensed, unless they are exempt from licensing. Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has been accepting any applications from unlicensed advisers after close of business (local time)on 3 May 2010.If you are receiving advice from an immigration adviser about an application (or possible application) for a visa or permit, you can check whether they are licensed at www.iaa.govt.nz

Arunima Dhingra, Director AIMS GLOBAL is a licenced immigration adviser and is also certified in Immigration Law and Practice by Massey University. She specialises in student visas, work visas, permanet residence visas including skilled migrant residence, family categories and appeals etc.

If your adviser is not licensed or exempt, and your application has not yet been sent to INZ, you can request the adviser stops work on your application and returns your documents to you. You can then transfer your application to Arunima who is a licensed immigration adviser registered with the Immigration Advisers Authority, or to an adviser who is exempt from licensing.

Contact Arunima Dhingra today.
